Age 91 of Maplewood, MN. Cherished father, grandfather and great grandfather went to be in the loving arms of Jesus after a long and valiant struggle with COPD on March 16, 2022. Preceded in death by wife, Neva; parents, Oscar and Freda Olson; sister, Joyce; brothers, Mauritz, Harry, Richard and Edward; and great-granddaughter, Kaycee Wiley. Survived by daughters, Laurie Olson, Wendy (Matt) Uzpen, and Bonnie Olson (Craig Hurrle); grandchildren, Alden (Kristin) Draeger, Erin Draeger, Nicholas Uzpen (Lana Swenson), Bradley (Sandra) Uzpen, Eric Uzpen, Emily (Pierre) Wiley, and Hayley (Adam) Westerby; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and an abundance of friends. Earl was a member of the U.S. Air Force and Reserves from 1949 until 1963. He served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis and helped with the Berlin Wall supply drops. After his time in the Air Force, Earl worked for the U.S Post Office as a mail carrier and retired in 1986. Upon retiring, he loved pursuing his passions for family, friends, fishing, faith, and church activities. Earl was a very service-oriented person having been actively involved in a wide variety of church ministries, foreign mission trips and other community organizations. He had an adventurous spirit, was a cheerleader for everyone he met, had been appreciated for his numerous stories and jokes, and admired and respected by the many people in his life. Visitation will be on Wednesday March 30, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sandberg Funeral Home (2593 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul). Memorial Service at 10:30 A.M. Saturday April 2, 2022, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church (900 Stillwater Rd., Mahtomedi) with visitation one hour prior.
