Obituary of Audrey Ida Podgorski
Age 88 of St. Paul, Minnesota
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1. Audrey was a resident of Sholom Nursing Home, along with her husband Raymond.
Audrey was born on October 27, 1934 to Frank and Sophie Nierenhausen. She was a graduate of Mechanic Arts High School, St. Paul, MN.
Audrey and Raymond were united in marriage on February 12, 1955 and soon after were stationed in California. Swiftly they were blessed with five children, Randy, Cindy, Pamela, Timothy and Steven. Audrey rapidly learned that she too was in the Marine Corps and faithfully served her country by keeping the “Home Fires” burning while Ray bravely served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and was stationed in numerous states all across the country. She had a gift for making new friends easily wherever the new adventure of Ray’s military career took them. She tirelessly managed the home, took care of the children and worked a job while Ray honorably served the Corps for 20 years. Audrey and Ray retired in Las Vegas, NV, where they had the time of their lives entertaining visiting family and friends. Audrey loved to Polka dance, had an affinity for playing cards and loved bingo. She was a skilled crocheter and loved making beautiful newborn outfits and blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Audrey was always faithful to her family, community and her Catholic faith. She will be missed.
Audrey is survived by her loving husband, Raymond and her children; Randy Podgorski, Cindy (Jack) Kinney, Pamela (Larry) Furnas and Steven (Lisa Minelli) Podgorski. Grandchildren; Kristol (Joshua)Anderson, Annie (Jerry) West, Brent (Stephanie) Kinney, Jay Kinney, Erin (James) Rundle, Nickolas (Lindsey) Podgorski, Zach (Jaylyn Lammert) Podgorski, Ross Podgorski and Rachel Podgorski. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by her beautiful newborn son Timothy, her parents Frank and Sophie Nierenhausen, a daughter-in-law, Jane Podgorski, son-in-law Jeffrey Nelson and two brothers, Jim and Donald (Ron)Nierenhausen, sister-in-laws Nancy Nierenhausen, Julie Nierenhausen and Sally Nierenhausen.
Memorial Service 6 PM Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Sandberg Funeral Home, 2593 East Seventh Ave., North St. Paul. Private Family Burial Wed. Nov. 16th, 2 PM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis.
