Obituary of Donald D. Heitland

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 18, 2012 after a short bout with lung cancer. Survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Norma, beloved children Donald Jr (Andrea), Michael (Elaine) and Mary Jo Haven (Michael); adoring grandchildren Jess (Anna), Jason, Katey Johnson (Eric), Lauren Haven, Jake, Bill and Dean; special great grandson Dexter Johnson and soon to be born Milo Donald Johnson. Also survived by nieces, nephews and many special friends. Preceded in death by parents Jacob & Bertha, siblings Jack & Dolores and infant great grandson Oscar Heitland. Don was born and raised in Ackley, Iowa where he married his lifelong sweetheart, Norma. After serving in the USMC, they made their home in No. St. Paul and Maplewood, MN where they have lived for over 50 years. Don enjoyed being part of the No. St. Paul Lions for 26 years. He also liked going to the "trailer" to fish, bowled on leagues and woodworking. Over the years, Don made many good friends and relished his times with those friends. Service Friday (2/24) at 11:00 AM at ST. MARK'S EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2499 Helen Street (Door 7W), No. St. Paul with visitation one hour before the service. Interment Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
