Obituary of George F. Rossbach

Age 90 of Maplewood World War II, US Navy Preceded in death by parents Frank & Mary; brothers Frank (Rocky) and Ray all of Maplewood. Survived by adoring wife of 67 years Bernadette; sons Dennis (Gayle), Daniel (Vera), Paul (Heather) and Robert (Tracy); daughters Karen (Steve Schneider) and Patricia (Clay Tolonen); 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister Delores Peltier of Grand Rapids, MN and brother James of Deer River, MN. Born in 1922, a graduate of North St. Paul High School class of 1940. He served in WWII as a aviation machinist mate first class on 17 islands in the pacific including Midway and Guadalcanal. Long active in the construction industry as a designer and builder of fine homes. George was a long time member of the St. Paul Builders Exchange, with good friend Roger Miller, and a 43 year member of the St. Paul Club. George taught drafting at St. Paul Technical College, served numerous terms as a Maplewood City Councilman and served as the city's mayor in 1998-1999 during which he was honored to carry the olympic torch. He had a special interest in the Maplewood Historical Society and a passion for the preservation and restoration of the Bruentrup Farm, working closely with Bill Bruentrup. George was the recepient of the "2007 Minnesota Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year" award and also the 2010 "Heritage Award" given by the City of Maplewood for long time service. He loved being involved in local current affairs, enjoyed golf and fishing and continued work designing homes and additions. He spent much time helping his children with all their building projects and sharing stories with others. He was known by many and loved by all. He will be deeply missed. Memorial Mass Wednesday September 5 at 11:00 AM at ST. JOHNS OF LITTLE CANADA, 380 E. Little Canada Road, Little Canada. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday from 4-7:00 PM and one hour before the Mass all at church. Memorials preferred to Breuntrup Farm in Maplewood. Special thanks to HealthEast Hospice.
