Obituary of Myron E. Sass

Myron Elmer Sass, age 92 of St. Paul, was welcomed to his heavenly home on Tuesday morning, September 20th at Southview Acres Healthcare Center in West St. Paul. He was born on September 19th, 1930 in Wabasha County to Elmer and Lessatta (Stephanhagen) Sass. He was made a child of God through baptism at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City, MN on October 26th, 1930.  Myron graduated from Plainview High School in 1950. One year later he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War for almost two years.  After being honorably discharged he worked as a carpenter for many years.  At “The Prom” dance hall on University Ave in St. Paul Myron met Hildegard “Heidi” Wischnewski.   They were married in 1964 and first lived in a White Bear Lake house that Myron built.  Later they moved to a house on the east side of St. Paul.  For 29 years they lived in the Iowa Hi-Rise.

Myron was devoted to Heidi and did all he could to provide and care for her.  He enjoyed listening to her German records.  In Heidi’s words, “he ate everything I put in front of him.”  Myron was blessed by a number of different Lutheran churches in his life.  The Holy Spirit worked a deep and abiding faith in his heart.  His faith in Jesus Christ and certainty of his salvation is a great comfort to those who loved him.

In their later years Myron and Heidi became members of Divinity Lutheran Church on the east side of St. Paul.  They were immediately welcomed and befriended by many people who were decades younger than them.  A number of these friends gave them rides to church, took them grocery shopping and made sure they got to medical appointments.  Steve and Melissa Adamski and William and Naomi Johnston especially enjoyed close relationships with Myron and Heidi.

Myron is survived by wife, Heidi of St. Paul; sister, Shirley Powers of Burnsville; sister-in-law, Rebecca Sass of Mahtomedi; other relatives and many friends. A Christian Funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Divinity Lutheran Church, 1655 E. Cottage Ave. in St. Paul.  Pastor John C. Berg will officiate with burial at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. A luncheon will be served in the Divinity Fellowship Hall.
