Obituary of Donna Mae Oakes

Oakes, Donna “Toots” M. (Hakseth) 

Age 88 of Maplewood, MN, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2023. She was born 11/17/1934 in Hastings, MN to Emily and John Hakseth. 

Donna married Leonard Oakes on July 15, 1952, and they moved to Maplewood, MN in 1955 where they raised their two sons, Terry and Bruce. Leonard passed away in 2001 after 48 years of marriage. Donna met Joe Keenan in 2005 and they remained close friends until her death. She was interested in being a housewife and mother, listening to her CD’s, gardening, cooking, being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed visiting often with her neighbors and their children. Donna liked going to the state fair, shopping, and dancing. 

Donna is preceded by husband, Leonard; son, Bruce; brother, Owen (Chuck) Hakseth; sisters, Helen (Sue) Rivard, Shirley Kaupp, and Larene Hakseth; and parents, John and Emily Hakseth. 

She is survived by son, Terry (Rose); close friend, Joe Keenan; son’s partner, Diana Hamrick; brother, Ivan Hakseth; sister, Myrna Sirotiak; granddaughters, Jessie and Jennifer; grandson, Ben Hamrick; great-grandson, Ashton. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 6 PM-8PM at Sandberg Funeral Home. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023, at 11 AM (10 AM-11 AM visitation) at Sandberg Funeral Home, 2593 E. 7th Avenue, N. St. Paul, MN 55109.
