Obituary of Philip Leslie Olson

Phil Olson, age 74, Oakdale MN, left us peacefully in his sleep at his home on February 20th, 2024.

Phil was born on April 2nd, 1949 in Frederic Wi, to Leslie and June Olson. Phil graduated from Frederic High School in 1967 before attending Eau Claire Vocational School (soon to become Chippewa Valley Technical College) graduating in 1969. He then went to work at 3M Company in St. Paul, MN where he worked for over 25 years as a Supply Chain Planner. After receiving a buyout offer from 3M, Phil took a 2 year hiatus before returning to the workforce for the State of Minnesota, Dept. Of Corrections as Correctional Officer at Stillwater State Prison. The stories he recounted from that experience were priceless - told over a few beers of course.

After retiring from the State, Phil enjoyed spending time at his favorite establishment, Twin Point Tavern in Lake Elmo MN, where he loved getting together with his friends, former 3Mer’s and his Twin Point family.

Phil loved the outdoors, fishing in his younger years, and deer hunting in the Barrens near Cushing WI, at his brother in law Charlie Johnson’s cabin. He didn’t miss a season in 59 years. Many deer, stories, beverages, political debates and great fun were shared with his Johnson family on that 80 acres that he loved.

Phil was a die hard Packer as well as a Badger fan and was rarely seen without some Packer gear on his person!

Phil is survived by Daughter Angie (Tony) Plourde, River Falls, WI, Son Cody (Jolie) Olson, Newport MN, Grandsons Carson & Cole Plourde and Marcelo and Noah Olson. Brother, Jonathan (Sue) Olson, Rice Lake, WI, Sister, Jolene (Curtis) Anderson, Siren, WI and many nieces and nephews.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, June and Leslie, Stepfather, Earnest Benson and Sister, Faith Johnson.

Private remembrances will be planned at a later date
